hylaine executive, Aly brooke spearheads tech for good initiative
CHARLOTTE, NC; JUNE 21st 2023. Throughout her career, Hylaine Executive Aly Brooke has been passionate about her community and giving back in authentic and meaningful ways. While catching up with an old friend and long-term Charlotte resident, Steve Hagood (CIO, Trane Technologies) the idea to use their extensive network of technology leaders to give back to the community was born. For many years, the narrative of ‘grocery deserts’ has been a term used in association with many of Charlotte’s underserved neighborhoods. A lack of access to essential food items and purveyors has negatively impacted the Charlotte community and the effects of its far-reaching impact more than 15% of the population. Armed with this knowledge, Aly and Steve approached local Charlotte food pantry, Loaves and Fishes and posed a simple question, “What do you need?”. When Tina Postel (CEO, Loaves and Fishes) responded saying they needed a way to allow people to have the dignity of choice by selecting the exact food items and products they needed and have it delivered to their doorstep, Aly and Steve knew they had the resources in their tight-knit group of IT executives to do something about it. With collaboration from James Clendenen (VP of Enterprise Retail Systems, Kroger) and Mike Laurenti (CIO, Global Support Office Ahold Delhaize), the team knew that the right technology existed to help solve this problem. Enter Instacart, a national grocery ordering and delivery service powerhouse with over 10 million active monthly users. With the power and accessibility of the Instacart platform, Loaves and Fishes clients are now able to harness the power of choice to select the exact products which they receive directly to their doorstep. Born as a simple idea to help amongst friends is now a fully operational technology solution that benefits thousands in the Charlotte region. Using this initial use case as a proof of concept, Instacart now intends on rolling this out to cities nationwide.
